Location Scouting

This test footage which we obtained as a group was from our primary location being London, as a large proportion of our locations was in this area. However even though this test footage is heavily based around London it shows a range of different locations being urban and rural. From this also we can identify the different social classes within society in relation to people but also locations.

(The GIFS present where made from our original test footage as a group)

Conventions in Music Videos

Music videos:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  They include a range of many shot such as long shots, close ups and mid shots. This is to create a strong focus on the artist, location and emotions. Close ups are used not only to show emotions but to reflect the words of the song with the movement of the lips of the artist.

The movement of the camera is used to follow and trace the artist or band. Camera various movements include tilts, pans, tracking and crane shots.

Jump cuts
This is the predominant editing technique used within music videos. This is because this allows a sudden change from one scene to another. Also transitions are used such as fade and dissolve as they are very common in music videos as they create a different effect to cuts.

Lighting
Some music videos are black and white which help emphasize a particular mood and some videos have artificial lighting which put the artists in an enhanced look.

Sound is mainly the vocals or the song.

Props:
These are important to add to the scene and create significance on particular objects or people.

Production Diary Six

I have been researching into the exhibition stage of a music video. From this I have clearly identify the leading and most popular platforms in which artist promote their music videos on. From this I discovered that in the last couple of years that social media is astonishingly big part and way in which music videos are now advertised and exhibited purely , because of the huge audience in which social media can cover. As well as this we made a decision on the platform in which are music video is going to preliminary exhibit our music video on after vast amounts of research. The platform in which we chose was YouTube. This was down to the fact of the extremely large popularity it has , the ease of accessibility it has for an audience and also the fact it is the leading video related platform worldwide.

What Platform Will Our Music Video Be Exhibited On?

Through various amounts of research platforms which music videos are regularly viewed on we decided as a collective group to make our main viewing platform to be YouTube. This was due to the massive popularity in which YouTube has so it will be more inclined to be watched by our target audience. Another reason was because of the ease of access it has for a user to actually find and to view from their preferred technological platform. Along side with this as a group we have agreed to create a FaceBook, Twitter and Instagram account for our artist to help promote / advertise our music video, make it more socially interactive between the artist and audience, but also to generate the different ways in which it can be viewed. However another huge advantage of using YouTube is that it can be easily linked and shared throughout all our social media platforms to further enhance views and popularity of our music video, to greater the chance of success.

Production Diary Five

From my research in which I conducted from my intertextuality analysis on Skyfall, See You Again and In The Air Tonight.  I discovered the effect in which a particular soundtrack, music video or film would have upon a audience. It was also understandable how the power from a voice such as an artist like Adele is strong enough to have an effect on an audience, but also for an audience to feel her presence throughout a music video in which she is not even acting in.
On the other hand it was also clear from my research that the concept of having film footage scenes linked into a music video is also a strong visually engaging method of attracting an audience. The way in which this is used also takes into account cross media convergence as an audience is being attracted from the audience's point of view but also from the particular film, which act as a promotional element from both parties. Furthermore this helps to gain success within the industry through attracting lots of attention and publicity to a particular music video.

Production Diary 4

From research on the theories I got a strong understanding of how gender representation can influence music videos. It has given me a wider knowledge of how different genders can engage an audience but also appeal to different people. Through research into Laura Mulvey's theory it has enlightened how women are stereotypically appeal to men throughout a music video as being the vocal point. From this also we can see that women are perceived as sexual objects towards men. As a group we are going to take into account the concept of how different genders appeal to an audience but we are not using the idea of sexual representation, as we are producing a gender equality music video.
